ART AT FOOTHILL
The Art Program at Foothill Elementary is a partnership between the Foothill PTA and the Saratoga Education Foundation (SEF). SEF provides the 3rd-5th Grade Art Curriculum, and the PTA provides Clay lessons for TK-5th Grade. Please see the SEF page for more information about the 3rd-5th Grade Curriculum!
K THROUGH 2ND GRADE ART CURRICULUM
The Foothill PTA provides the K, 1st and 2nd grade Art classes. The primary goal of this program is to introduce our Foothill children to the enormous range of amazing Art that surrounds us and is interwoven into almost every aspect of our lives. Over the course of each year, our art teachers will touch on, teach, and retrace the 7 principal elements of Art (line, shape, space, form, color, texture) in a variety of ways, and through a variety of Artists and Movements. Art Vocabulary is introduced to the children, but is done in an age appropriate fashion and in a manner designed to engage the children. (For example, the children may learn about “fauvism”, but it may initially be referred to as really strong “look at me” colors rather than the more technical definition more suited to engaging older students.)
Each class consists of 45-60 minutes of instruction, and art classes occur approximately once per month. As the classes occur, we will post links to them here at this site.
Clay and Ceramics for all grades are taught by parent volunteers. We provide training for these programs.
Online. We offer “how to” videos you can watch from home. These videos will teach you how to complete each project.
